Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997)
Gunnar Nylund is one of the most respected Swedish ceramic designers of the 20th century. Nylund began his career at Bing & Grondahl’s Porcelain Factory in Copenhagen (1925-1929) before he started the Saxbo Workshop together with Nathalie Krebs in 1929.
In 1931 Nylund was headhunted by Rörstrand (Lidköping). He got the role as the Artistic Leader of Rörstrand, a position he held until 1955 when he started freelancing for several manufacturers, including Rörstrand.
Nylund returned to Copenhagen in the early 1960s where he started manufacturing exclusive stoneware for Nymölle Ceramics Factory.
Although Nylund created about 30 art objects and sculptures for public decoration over five decades, he is likely most famous for his stoneware figurines and for inventing the immensely popular Harefur Glaze.
